Frequently Asked Questions

Miscellaneous Questions

1. Can breakouts be cured?

Breakouts can't be cured, with or without treatment. Even after blemishes disappear, you may need to use an effective skincare routine to keep new blemishes from forming. We have created an all-round system to help control breakouts gently. A combination system uses several different ingredients to manage the blemishes you have now and help keep new ones from forming. The ingredients used in Proactiv® Solution should continue to be effective for as long as you use the products as directed. If your flare-ups continue or increase in severity, consult your dermatologist.

2. Does Proactiv® Solution promote facial hair growth?

No, Proactiv® Solution is for the management of blemishes and is not intended to promote hair growth.

3. Where should I keep Proactiv® Solution?

For best results, store at room temperature.

4. Are larger bottles of Proactiv® Solution available?

The 3-Step System was designed to last 60 days with average use. At the present time, we do not have plans to offer larger bottles.

5. Does the heat destroy the effects of Salicylic Acid?

Yes, storing at room temperature is best.

6. Will Salicylic Acid cause tattoos to lighten or fade?

No.

7. Can the quality of water in my neighbourhood have an effect on the results of Proactiv® Solution?

The quality of water should not affect your results with Proactiv® Solution. However, we do not have scientific data to concur or conflict this statement.

8. Is Proactiv® Solution safe to use when tanning in a tanning salon (sun-beds)?

As the ingredients used in Proactiv® Solution include Salicylic Acid, you may find that skin is more sensitive to the sun and tanning beds. Therefore, we suggest you avoid tanning beds – and always wear an oil-free sunscreen.

9. I am outside in direct sunlight for most of the day. Is it safe to use Proactiv® Solution?

Yes, but the ingredients used in Proactiv® Solution may make your skin more sensitive to the sun. You should always wear a sunscreen of at least SPF 15 (such as our Oil Free Moisture with SPF 15).  Apply Proactiv® Solution first, then the sunscreen.

10. Can I wear makeup over Proactiv® Solution?

Yes, you can still wear make-up ... but always look for products that are non-comedogenic and oil-free. And always remove makeup before working out. The Pressed Powders in our catalogue and our line of makeup products are specifically developed for blemish-prone skin.

11. Are any of the Proactiv® Solution products safe to use for the removal of eye make up and lipstick?

Yes. Our Make-up Removing Cloths are safe and gentle.  You can use them all over your face, even around the delicate eye area. Follow with Renewing Cleanser.

12. Does Proactiv® Solution offer a product that helps with wrinkles?

The Repairing Night Lotion combines the blemish-fighting power of Salicylic Acid and the age-defying power of Retinol. It helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and restores moisture balance while preventing breakouts. We also offer Replenishing Eye Serum with Co-Q10 & Green Tea to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles around the delicate eye area and Nourishing Eye Cream with Vitamins A, C & E and Soy Extract to deliver deep, soothing hydration.

13. Will Proactiv® Solution clog my pores?

No. Proactiv® Solution was formulated to be non-comedogenic (non-pore-clogging).

14. Proactiv® is clearing my blemishes, but I have redness. What should I do?

If you experience redness when you first use Proactiv® Solution, you may be sensitive to Salicylic Acid. If this happens, stop using the system for two days. When your skin begins to improve, resume using the Renewing Cleanser and Revitalising Toner daily. To slowly build a tolerance for Salicylic Acid, use the Repairing Lotion twice a week at night. Gradually increase nightly usage of the Repairing Lotion, as tolerated. If redness persists, stop using the product and consult your doctor.

15. Why has Proactiv® Solution suddenly stopped working for me?

Blemish formation is cyclical. A blemish begins approximately 2-3 weeks before it appears on your skin's surface. It starts in your sebaceous hair follicles, the tiny holes commonly called pores. Deep within each follicle, your sebaceous glands are working to produce sebum, the oil that keeps your skin moist and pliable.

The blemish cycle responsible for your breakouts may last many years, and you may experience periods of improvement followed by flare-ups, and vice-versa.
